Your Kids Will Copy You
When the first copy of my book arrived at our house, both Arielle and Dylan told me they were going to write books too. Life made.
Not too long after that, the TV was turned off and they opened up notebooks to start writing. Arielle, being the little negotiator she is, convinced me to use my old computer to start writing her new book. Once she traded her notebook for Google Docs, her output went up 10x.
I never once told my kids to start writing books. They see dad write and write and write. And now they can hold a tangible product of dad’s writing in their hands. That’s powerful for kids.
I will never forget when Arielle asked, “Dad, did you really write this?” I wanted to answer as slow as possible to just watch her face and take everything in about that moment. I told her I did. She followed up with asking for a signed copy. I signed one for her and left it in her bedroom. An hour later she comes to me and gives me a hug, “Daddy, thank you for what you wrote in my book. I will always be your biggest fan too.”
Recently, Arielle woke up at 545am and went right to her computer to start writing. Talk about ambitious. I love how these kids find something worth investing in and put their focus into it.
