Mindset & Habits

One of the Biggest Mistakes Coaches Make!

One of the biggest mistakes I see coaches make is not meeting the client where they are at.

Coaches struggle to understand their clients when they haven’t personally been through the same problems their client has. It’s important for coaches to seek to understand and listen closely. The same thing goes for parents. If you want to develop your kids into fine young adults, then we must seek to understand first before trying to create change.

The finite mindset approach focuses on stopping undesired actions rather than facilitating real change. The spectrum mindset approach involves joining the person in their journey and providing support from the inside.

The finite mindset attempts to stop the action by shouting from the outside. The spectrum mindset tries to get close and listens instead.

In “The Spectrum Mindset,” I talk about my son Dylan who was born on the autism spectrum, holding objects to bring him peace. He didn’t learn to let go of his objects until I started to hold objects alongside him. It was through this experience that I learned the importance of reaching a destination together.

I hope you read this book and put the lessons learned into action with your family, clients, coworkers, and most importantly, yourself.
